Me and the kids after my birthday meal at Max’s

Good food, prepared well, does not have to be intimidating.  If you can read, you can cook.  I’ve often heard people say, I don’t know how to cook, or I’d be afraid to try to make that, or my mother never cooked so I don’t cook.  The sad fact is, many people don’t do much cooking anymore.  Good food does not have to be complicated, and it seldom looks like it just came off the pages of Food Network Magazine.  There is alot of satisfaction in a dish well prepared. Most of the milestones and celebrations in our lives involve food.   I’ve done a lot of cooking in my life.  I learned from good cooks (my mom and my granny).  They could make a feast out of the most ordinary of ingredients.  I even took pictures of the first pan of gravy I made for my husband (and that was on our honeymoon).  I wasted no time once I was married in cooking!  We had some gourmet meals in our little efficiency apartment in married housing at UK.  When we started our family, and the family grew to six children, so did the grocery bill.  We don’t have a light eater in the bunch.  They all enjoy food as much as Jimmy and I do.  While all six were still home, and the boys were active in all the sports they played in high school, we could really go through the groceries.  During that period of time at our “peak grocery consumption”, we’d easily go through 8 gallons of milk and 6-8 loaves of bread every week.  Many times I’d be dragging two carts through Wal-Mart with sometimes as many as six children in tow.   With the urging of my children, and since I received a nice camera for Christmas, I decided to put my love of food and my love of photography to good use and archive some of our family’s favorites.  I’ve undertaken this task primarily for my kids, but I know I’m always looking for new recipes so you may find some you like among these.  I hope that I’ve written instructions that anyone can follow.  There will be simple recipes and more complicated ones.  Give some of them a try, you may just surprise yourself!  I hope you will enjoy our family favorites with your family as well.

  3. Hi, Debbie. I appreciate you making me aware of your cooking blog and just now was able to go there and take a look. I’m impressed by your writing (there are tons of blogs out there, done by people who don’t know how to write nor do they know how to spell) and with your photographs and recipes. The photos are really clear and sharp, not to mention enough to make me hungry. :o)
I wish you well in this and into any endeavor into which our Father leads you. I have no doubt you’ll have success. I’m going to “advertise” your blog on my Facebook page. I suggest you take a look at doing a Facebook page, too, using the pictures you have here. TONS of people use Facebook, and lots of Christians, too. If not, I wouldn’t waste my time.
Take care, dear sister. My love to all of you.
