Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream
Homemade ice cream is a summer tradition at our house. It’s not uncommon for us to make a freezer of ice cream several times a week when all the family is home. (I made two freezers yesterday!) We’ve tried lots of different recipes and this one has to be one of the easiest, as well as one of the tastiest. It has just three ingredients, but you would never guess that from the taste of it! We think it tastes alot like a chocolate frosty from Wendy’s. If you’ve never attempted homemade ice cream, give this recipe a try for great results!
Ingredients:
15 Tablespoons cocoa
3 cans sweetened, condensed milk (such as Eagle Brand. This is not evaporated milk)
6 cups milk (I used 2% but whole milk would work also)
Pour the milk and the sweetened condensed milk into the ice cream container.
Mix it up real well with a long spoon. Measure the cocoa into a cup and add enough hot tap water to be able to stir it into a thick creamy consistency.
Stir the chocolate mixture into the milk mixture. Place the lid on the container, layer ice and salt around the container and freeze as directed. (It took mine about 40 minutes to freeze) Once done, remove the lid,
remove the dasher (paddle) from the ice cream and if you have time and are patient enough, pack with ice so it can”ripen”, which is the traditional, old-fashioned way to do it but quite honestly, we hardly ever do this. We are just too anxious to eat it! But if you are patient enough and aren’t quite ready to eat it (which is the only reason we’d ever wait) once you’ve removed the dasher, replace the lid, cover with a kitchen towel and place ice on top of that.
When you are ready to serve, dip it out and enjoy!
Its waaayyy better than Wendy’s frosty!
thanks!
