Christmas (or anytime) Punch
This beautiful red punch is not just for Christmas time. I’ve made it for baby showers, wedding showers, school receptions, or just for a treat. It’s an easy punch to throw together and makes a nice slushy frozen mixture that my kids love! You can make it all in one large two gallon container, but I usually divide the ingredients evenly between two one-gallon containers to make it easier to handle. The key to achieving the soft slushie texture is to shake the container occasionally once you’ve placed them in the freezer, but if you forget and it freezes solid, you can still thaw it and break up the chunks with a metal spoon and get the same slushie result.
Ingredients:
2 small packages unsweetened orange Kool-aid (.13 oz. pkg.)
2 small packages unsweetened cherry Kool-aid (.13 oz. pkg.)
1 large can (46 oz.) orange juice (not frozen concentrate)
1 large can (46 oz.) pineapple juice
1 cup lemon juice
4 cups sugar
5 quarts water
Mix all of the above together in a large (2 gallons at least) container and place in freezer.
Shake every hour if possible to break up any chunks and give a consistent slushie texture. Serve when frozen but still slushie.
If you want to separate the ingredients and make half a recipe in two one-gallon containers, then the following proportions can be used per gallon:
1 small package cherry Kool-aid
1 small package orange Kool-aid
2 3/4 cup orange juice
2 3/4 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
2 cups sugar
2 1/2 quarts water
Pour into two one-gallon containers and place in freezer. Shake every hour if possible to break up any chunks and give a consistent slushie texture. Serve when frozen, but still slushie.
No worries, if you are unable to be around to shake the punch, it can freeze solid and be thawed and broken up with a spoon or large knife as it thaws.
Soooo good!
